The small town of Locarno has the mildest climate in the whole of Switzerland and attracts nature lovers from all over the world for it spectacular shows of Camelias, Mimosas and Magnolias in Spring.
The town is situated on the banks of Lake Maggiore and has a distinctive Italian charm with a lovely Mediterranean flora in its parks. The old town is also extremely picturesque with elegant noblemans houses, old churches and lovely Visconti Castle. |

Piazza Grande - one of Switzerlands largest and most famous squares is the heart of Locarno and is a very popular meeting place with most of the commercial activity centred here. The narrow streets leading off the square take visitors up to the Citta Veccha, the old town.
Cardada - start off your trip to Cardada at the funicular's valley station in Locarno, close to the lake. View the subtropical gardens and stately villas on the way up to Orselima and from there take the aerial cable car to Cardada. In Cardada there is a breathtaking view over Lake Maggiore.
Cimetta Mountain - Locarno's own mountain has 4 south facing pistes with spectacular views of the lake. In Summer, take one of the walking trails up the mountain and enjoy the views. In Winter, Cimetta has great skiing opportunities and Five Mountain Restaurant has fantastic local cuisine to savour.
Tropicana Leisure Centre - located a short distance from Locarno, in Quartino, the centre is a great leisure experience with various activities on offer. Play billards, table tennis or miniature golf as well as indoor or outdoor childrens playgrounds and a tasty restaurant serving amongst others, delicious wood fired pizza.
Lake Maggiore - in Summer the banks of the lake are transformed into a vibrant beach resort with music, events and many delicious restaurants. Boat trips and watersports are also very popular. |

International Film Festival - held in August every year, the event transforms the small town into a vibrant bustle of people, especially on Piazza Grande where evening screenings are held.
Settimane Musicale - these musical weeks featuring classical music, are held from August to October in various churches in Ascona, Brissago and Locarno. |
